Having An Annoying Pain Or Injury That You Don’t Quite Understand?

Physio Exercises : Do you have an unsettling sensation that is making you restless? Pain, in medical terms, can be described as an uncomfortable feeling in specific body parts resulting from muscle soreness or injury to a joint or a tendon.

While it is common to experience sudden sharp pain from time to time, persisting pain for a more extended period can be alarming and a major indicator of a problem that needs fixing. Several physio exercises and solutions can be offered to mitigate this pain before it gets out of hand. This article will go over all you need to know about pain and solutions to your pain.

Understanding Pain

As mentioned earlier, pain is an uncomfortable sensation that can be felt in your muscles, joints, and soft nerves mainly due to muscle soreness or injury to the joints. The most common pain you can experience includes; back pain, neck pain, headaches, shoulder and knee pain.

Pain is a healthy brain response to stimuli after receiving information from nociceptive nerves about a damaged tissue causing the muscle to contract. The severity of pain depends on the brain’s interpretation of the signals sent through a reflex arc in the spinal cord.

Types Of Pain

Pain can be categorized into different categories depending on the descriptive characteristics and the period one experiences it. This article will focus on the main two types of pain: acute and chronic pain.

Acute Pain

Acute pain is a sharp, usually short sensation that results from an unusual occurrence to the body. When this happens, it usually indicates a slight change in how the specific part of your body behaves or an infiltration of a foreign body, but it is mostly harmless.

There are three distinctive signs of acute pain.

  • It is a superficial sensation on the skin or under it in the soft tissues and is usually referred to as Somatic pain.
  • Feeling pain in a different location other than where the pain originates, also known as Referred pain.
  • Pain originating from a part inside the nervous system, also known as Visceral pain.

There are various reasons why you will experience acute pain, such as childbirth, minor cuts and burns, heavy work, surgery, a strained muscle, an ankle sprain, and a broken bone.

Chronic Pain

Chronic pain, in most cases, is prolonged acute pain that lasts more than 3 to 6 months. It can persist when the initial cause of injury is healed or long gone. In other cases, it can be experienced even when the patient has no past damage to any part of their body. It is caused by; back pain, a heart attack, a stroke, fibromyalgia, cancer, arthritis, migraine headaches, and chronic fatigue syndrome.

While chronic pain can result from physical damage to a body part, it can also stem from emotional triggers that overwhelm the body. These can include; stress and depression, anger and frustration, as well as anxiety.

These factors may lead the patient to feel hopeless. Which causes them to be agitated quite often and withdrawn from others.

When To Seek Professional Help

Seeking medical or professional help is mandatory to ensure that you get better and live your life without frustrations. However, if you are asking how to know if it’s time to seek professional help. Then here are several signals that you should seek professional attention immediately.

  • Change in your personality and decline in personal care
  • Inability to move around
  • Loss of appetite
  • Lack of energy
  • Tensed muscles
  • Constant aches

Treating Pain

Acute pains usually go away after a while, but just in case it prolongs, simple stretching exercises and continuous light movement can help relieve the pain. Similarly, getting enough rest and adopting appropriate sleeping positions can help tremendously.

On the other hand, chronic pains can become a hassle to relieve and may require professional help. A physician would prescribe prescription medication to you if the condition were caused by cancer, arthritis, and migraine headaches.

Physio exercises from a professional can manage any other causes. The following are several services that can help relieve this pain.

  • Clinical Pilates is a form of physio exercise that mainly deals with posture, core stability, balance, control, strength, flexibility, and breathing.
  • Podiatry is a procedure that diagnoses and surgically treats disorders of the foot, ankle, and lower extremity.
  • Remedial Massage is a special type of massage that traces the original reason for the pain that causes muscles to damage and inhibits mobility.
  • Exercise Physiology is a procedure that aims to prevent and manage acute or chronic disease, primarily caused by injury, to restore the patient’s optimal physical function and wellness.
  • Physiotherapy involves the patient rehabilitating, maintaining, and restoring pain caused by sports injuries, back pain, or surgeries.

You don’t deserve to continue living in your pain. Fortunately, you can seek to find out what exactly is causing your pain and how you can fix it. To enjoy a stress-free healthy lifestyle, making specific changes in how you carry yourself can make a huge difference.
